Northern Pursuit Outfitters, Whitetail Deer Hunts in Saskatchewan

The Hunt

In Northern Pursuit’s outfitting are the deer population has rebounded with great promise. When you join us for a hunt, you can expect to see on average 4-5 different bucks per day ranging from 1-5 1/2 years old. We start our intensive baiting program several weeks prior to the season to ensure that the deer are accustomed to frequenting our bait sites. Each site is maintained on a two-day schedule throughout the season to hold the deer. We also utilize trail cameras and the guides knowledge to increase the odds of harvesting a trophy whitetail.

The majority of our stands are elevated box blinds that offer a full 6’4” of standing room making for a much more comfortable day on stand. These are great as they can be heated if necessary and offer an elevated view of the bait location taking the forest undergrowth out of your line of sight. We also utilize enclosed ground blinds as well as climbing tree stands if the situation dictates.

Prior to your hunt we do everything in our power to increase your odds of taking a trophy buck. During the week most hunters will have numerous opportunities to harvest a 125” – 150” buck. Our goal is to have you take a mature buck with heavy horns, and a massive body which would satisfy any Whitetail hunter’s dream. The trick is to pass up an immature deer that normally you wouldn’t let walk at home, until you see a real mature Saskatchewan buck. In the end it is your hunt and we want you to be happy and return for another hunt with us, so ultimately it is your choice.

Our Area

When you come on an outfitted hunt in Saskatchewan the Government designates an area for the outfitter which is in the forest fringe. There are only a handful of outfitters in Saskatchewan that have allocated hunting area where there is farmland that joins this forest fringe, and we are one of them. Most are only allowed to hunt in the zones that are total forest which of course limits the quality and numbers of deer in their area. To reach their full potential bucks need the nutrients found in the grain and alfalfa grown in the fields that neighbor the forest as well as great genetics. The rest is left up to the staff to cut trails, place stands and use their skills to provide the client with highest opportunity for a buck of a lifetime!

What to Expect

• You will fly in to either Saskatoon or Edmonton on Sunday, where you will need to arrange a vehicle to get to camp with, directions are provided here.
• Once you arrive, you’ll settle into our 5 star lodge, then sight your weapon in at our range.
• We will have a meal prepared by our cook then give everyone an orientation talk about what to expect, our daily routine, plus safety aspects for the upcoming week.
• Dan will assign you a guide and then we prep your gear for the hunt.
• Whitetail hunts in Saskatchewan are an all day event. You sit from sun up to sun down in a comfortable tree stand, ground blind or heated box blind based on the weather conditions.
• This is a Guided hunt, so you are escorted from our 5 star lodge to a staging area where we take an ATV to the stand where your guide waits til you are set then departs for his daily duties.
• A check in time is established between the guide and hunter, cell phones work in the area very well so that will be the main form of communication if needed.
• After you harvest your animal you contact your guide who will perform pictures and legally cut and tag your Buck. Field dressing is done away from the hunting area.
• After the day of hunting we enjoy the stories of the day while having a home cooked meal by our cook, followed by further relaxation, and regroup for the next day.
• Our Hunts span from arrival day in camp on Sunday afternoon until Saturday 12 noon when you depart for your flight home.
• Trophy care of your animal is provided. The head is caped and hide froze, then we advise that you take your antlers and cape with you frozen so you can have the taxidermist finish your trophy. It is possible to leave but, it is more inconvenient for you as you won’t receive it back for a long period of time. You are also welcome to take the meat but; if you choose not to we distribute it to the local community.
• As a hunter you are aloud to harvest only 1 Deer. Wolves, Coyotes and other fur bearing animals are not allowed to be harvested at this time.
• The terrain varies slightly but, mainly you are hunting in the forest. Shot distance can be 50 to 150 yards.
