Northern Pursuit Outfitters, Black Bear Hunts in Saskatchewan

The Hunt

We start our intensive baiting program several weeks prior to the season to ensure that the bear are accustomed to frequenting our bait sites. Each site is maintained every two days throughout the season to hold the bear in the areas we want them and to ensure you are hunting an active bait location. We also utilize trail cameras to help keep track of the big boys.

The majority of our stands are ladder stands, lock-ons or ground/pop-up blinds. During a regular day you can encounter anywhere from 1 – 10 different bears. The goal for you is to harvest average to above average Black Bear. To categorize this an average Black Bear is 51/2 feet from tip of nose to tip of tail and weighs approximately 170lbs. In our outfitting area we have found historically that we harvest about 30% colour phase bears. Our policy is that we guarantee you 100% shot opportunity but cannot guarantee size or colour.

Depending on the time of year and environmental factors your day can also be filled with fishing and other outdoor activities that are local to the area. There is a 18 hole golf course 10 minutes from the cabin if you want to fit that into your morning routine before the afternoon/evening hunt.

Our Area

When you come on an outfitted hunt in Saskatchewan the Government designates an area for the outfitter which is in the forest fringe. There are only a handful of outfitters in Saskatchewan that have allocated hunting area where there is farmland that joins this forest fringe, and we are one of them. Most are only allowed to hunt in the zones that are total forest which of course limits the quality and numbers of bear in their area. To reach their full potential a mature bear searches for a female in heat as well as scavenging for his daily food. The rest is left up to the staff to cut trails, place stands and use their skills to provide the client with highest opportunity for a trophy bear of a lifetime!
